Lecture by Zoltán Kárpáti in Milan
date_range 07 November 2019

Zoltán Kárpáti presented his lecture at the international conference, L’ultimo Leonardo: 1510-1519, organized by Pietro C. Marani at the Palazzo Reale in Milan, on 7–8 November 2019. Along with the preparation of the exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest in 2018, focusing on Leonardo’s representation of horses related to the small bronze, a comprehensive technical investigation was performed on the statuette. This research provides new insight into the inner structure of the bronze and reconstructs the casting process. In his talk, Zoltán Kárpáti intended to discuss how these new findings support or cast doubts on the hypothesis that the Budapest Horse and Rider was created as a “test piece” for a huge equestrian statue.
